Outreach

What is outreach?
Most FIRST robotics teams will participate in some form of outreach. It’s most often an act of spreading the message of STEM. As FIRST is founded upon the concept of having students critically think and apply STEM concepts. Outreach is a very broad term, as the term can be applied to an Instagram page just as easily as a robotics event. Even though there are multiple forms of outreach, 2Train Robotics attempts to help the STEM community in any way possible.
Why is outreach important?
Outreach is a core concept of FIRST robotics. The more outreach robotics teams do, the more they can introduce the world of robotics to people. Outreach wouldn’t be done if there wasn’t a good reason for it. Well, really, there are a plethora of reasons why robotics teams do outreach events. To put it into simpler words, if robotics has made a positive impact on the people in their respective team. Why shouldn’t they pass the experience of robotics onto someone else?

Bake Sale
One of our beloved sponsors, Columbia University, allowed us to hold a bake sale within Alfred Lerner Hall. The proceeds of this bake sale went to Woodie Flower’s memorial fund. We were able to raise a total of just over 200$. This bake sale was held soon after his death, as his impact on FIRST will never be forgotten, especially with his gracious professionalism. Additionally, his impact on 2Train Robotics runs deep as he went to a Yankees game and spoke at our 20th anniversary luncheon.

Co-Op City
2Train Robotics was invited to participate in the Co-Op City Career and College Fair. The purpose of this event was to display our robot in order to introduce young people into the world of STEM. As a team we presented our robot, taught kids how to operate the robot, and explained how a robot like ours functions. The children operating the robot were faced with the task of maneuvering through an obstacle course.

As a team we presented our robot, taught kids how to operate the robot, and explained how a robot like ours functions. The children operating the robot were faced with the task of maneuvering through an obstacle course.
